THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS POSING GUIDE | MAKE HER SMILE #37

Capturing those perfect moments with just the Bride & Groom is my all-time favourite part of a Wedding. It takes time, experience and a lot of skill to perfect portraiture in photography and my approach has always been to capture natural & creative photographs of the Bride & Groom.

Each week I will share one of my Wedding Images, sharing my tips on posing, how to encourage the couple with feedback and prompts and give an overview of my camera settings.

Remember that each Wedding is different, I have a handful of posing ideas I use, each pose can lead to something different and unique. Capturing a perfect portrait is not always about posing, asking the Bride and Groom to kiss can lead to genuine laughter, that moment can create some of the best photographs of the day.

One of the main roles of a wedding photographer is to snap those smiles from the bride and groom, it's what they pay you to do and there's plenty of tips and tricks when it comes to posing to help you achieve them. In this particular image of Susan & Michael, I wanted to capture the gorgeous setting of their wedding venue and combine it with some smiles and laughter from them both. Ask your Bride & Groom to cuddle together as you would in most of the shots, whilst keeping your attention on the Bride, especially your focus, ask the groom to kiss her cheek. If this doesn't spark a smile from the Bride, which it almost certainly will, ask him to repeat it a few times or move further down her face towards her neck..works especially well if you have a ticklish bride. You may only have a few opportunities to capture this pose before the novelty wears off and you may not receive those genuine reactions and smiles, so make sure you pick the perfect backdrop and time of day to really maximise this pose.
